🎭 Join Our Creative Team: Casual Theatre Technician Opportunity in Hampshire
Are you passionate about the magic that happens behind the scenes? Do you thrive on bringing creative visions to life through sound, light, and technical mastery? If so, we have an exciting opportunity waiting for you in the heart of Hampshire!
We’re looking for a Casual Theatre Technician to join our dynamic and collaborative team — someone who loves the buzz of live performance, has a flair for creativity, and an eye for detail.
🌟 About the Role
As a Casual Theatre Technician, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the audience experience. From setting the perfect lighting mood to ensuring every sound cue hits at just the right moment, your work will help transform ideas into unforgettable moments on stage.
This hands-on role involves working with cutting-edge theatre technology, supporting productions from rehearsal to final curtain call, and collaborating closely with directors, designers, and performers. It’s the ideal opportunity for someone looking to build their portfolio and grow their skills in a professional yet supportive environment.
🎚️ What You’ll Be Doing
Every day will bring something new, but your key responsibilities will include:
- Preparing, installing, and operating lighting, sound, and AV systems for rehearsals and performances.
- Rigging and stage setup, ensuring everything runs safely and smoothly.
- Conducting essential pre-show checks and operating consoles during live shows.
- Troubleshooting technical issues under pressure (because the show must go on!).
- Collaborating with production teams, visiting companies, and volunteer crews.
- Supporting get-ins, fit-ups, performances, and get-outs with efficiency and teamwork.
You’ll also help maintain compliance with health & safety, and fire regulations — keeping both performers and audiences safe while ensuring every performance is technically flawless.
💡 What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone with a mix of creativity, technical skill, and a can-do attitude. Ideally, you’ll bring:
- A diploma or degree in Technical Theatre, Stagecraft, Production Arts, or similar experience.
- 1–3 years of hands-on experience in theatre, live events, or performing arts.
- Proficiency in lighting systems (DMX, ETC/Strand, EOS) and sound engineering.
- A solid understanding of safety practices — from PAT testing to working at height.
If you’re the kind of person who can stay calm under pressure, solve problems quickly, and loves being part of a team, you’ll fit right in.
🌈 Desirable Extras
We’d love to hear from candidates who also have:
- First Aid, Working at Height, or Electrical Safety certifications.
- Experience with projection, video mapping, or automation systems.
- An interest in new theatre technologies or sustainable production practices.
💼 The Details
- Pay: £15.00–£20.00 per hour
- Contract: 12-month temporary or freelance position
- Location: In-person, Hampshire
- Benefits:
- Casual dress
- Free on-site parking
- A creative, supportive working environment
You’ll need to be willing to work evenings, weekends, and the occasional irregular hour — but in return, you’ll be part of something special: a team that brings stories to life.
🎭 Why Join Us?
This isn’t just another technical role — it’s an opportunity to be part of a thriving theatre community. You’ll work on a variety of productions, hone your craft, and collaborate with passionate professionals who love what they do.
If you’re ready to bring your skills to the stage and make an impact behind the scenes, we’d love to hear from you.
