’’Hypnotic and unforgettable’’
“Sandford’s astonishing script and delivery make this a chilling but unmissable study of abuse and survival’’
“Sandford’s monologue has an extraordinary incremental power and eloquence” The Guardian
“Groomed also includes riveting metaphors of the story of Adolphe Sax, inventor of the saxophone, who overcame all manner of calamities, and the remarkable tale of Hiro Onoda, a Japanese Army Intelligence Officer, who refused to leave his wartime trench long after it was safe to do so.”
Patrick Sandford
Patrick Sandford began his theatre career as a performer, before turning almost exclusively to directing. He was Artistic Director of the Lyric Theatre Belfast before coming to the Redgrave Theatre in Farnham only to become an award-winning director at The Nuffield Theatre Southampton where he produced many new plays. He remained at the Nuffield for 25 years – an extraordinary achievement!
As a writer his work includes translating Beach Wedding from the French NOCES DE SABLE by Didier Van Cauwelaert, and several stage adaptations, including FRANKENSTEIN, using only Mary Shelley’s words, which is published by Nick Hern Books.
He is now a freelance director and actor and is co-founder of Ingenious Purpose Theatre Company whose inaugural production BLOODSHOT toured the UK and internationally.
GROOMED has been seen in London at both the Soho and St James’s Theatres and in the United States.
His performance was nominated in the 2018 “Offie” Awards for Best Actor.
