Clarice Cliff: Sunshine on a Plate!
Clarice Cliff was an extraordinary woman.
Her striking, colourful and innovative designs have made her a household name and in May 2003 one of her most famous pieces was sold at Christie’s for almost £40,000.
Her vibrant and joyful designs represented the new modern spirit of the 1930s for women, and the play charts her rise from humble working class beginnings to art director of a famous commercial firm.
In public she was described as one of the romances of the pottery trade, but her private life concealed a heart-wrenching secret which could have ruined her.
If you aren't able to see the show at the Phoenix, never fear. A performance and workshop will also be taking place at Petersfield Museum & Art Gallery on Saturday 8th June at 7.30pm. Click here for more details.
